On November 21, 2025, Perkumpulan Ayam Sejahtera Indonesia (PASI) continued its educational program titled “PASI Knowledge Space” at HSP Home Pasar Manggis, located in the Setia Budi district of South Jakarta. The event was attended by Jumantik and Posyandu community health volunteers from the Pasar Manggis area as part of an effort to increase public awareness about animal welfare and the importance of choosing eggs produced from cage-free farming systems. 

During the event, PASI delivered educational sessions through the #BERTELURdenganBEBAS campaign by presenting various insights on egg consumption trends among Indonesian consumers as well as the current condition of Indonesia’s egg production industry. The educational materials also highlighted the importance of implementing animal welfare practices, particularly in laying hen farming systems. 

Participants were given an understanding of the condition of the majority of laying hen farms in Indonesia, which still use conventional battery cage systems. This system is considered to have negative impacts on animal welfare because it limits the hens’ movement and restricts their natural behaviors. Through this presentation, PASI aimed to raise public awareness about the origins of the eggs consumed daily and the importance of supporting more responsible and humane farming practices. 

In addition, PASI also explained the importance of implementing cage-free farming systems, which provide hens with better space to move and allow them to express their natural behaviors more properly. This educational session aimed to help the audience understand that consumer choices can play an important role in encouraging a transition toward farming systems that place greater emphasis on animal welfare. 

As part of its effort to encourage improvements in Indonesia’s laying hen farming systems, PASI introduced the #BERTELURdenganBEBAS campaign, which aims to promote the implementation of cage-free animal welfare standards within Indonesia’s egg farming industry. The campaign also encourages the public to become more aware of the conditions faced by laying hens and to support the transition toward farming systems that are more humane, responsible, and sustainable.

The PASI Knowledge Space event was conducted interactively through a question-and-answer session with the participants. During the session, the audience enthusiastically discussed the #BERTELURdenganBEBAS campaign and the important role of mothers in raising awareness about animal welfare, particularly regarding laying hens in Indonesia, many of which are still kept in conventional battery cage systems.
